Grants

The Categories. Project ideas can be submitted in one of three categories:

  • Youth Education: help school-age children understand the food in their lunches and how it gets from the farm to their plate.
  • Community Involvement: reach out to your community with an educational initiative.
  • Food Availability: increase the general public’s understanding of what’s in front of them at the grocery store and how it got there.

There’s no limit to the number of project ideas you can submit.

Available Grants. Three $3,000 grants will be awarded, one for each program category.

The Process. All eligible ideas will be reviewed to determine if they meet the grant program guidelines. After this review, selected ideas will enter the Modification and Refinement Stage. If your idea is selected, you’ll be notified via email and contacted by your college-designated representative “champion” to provide counsel and advice on how to help improve your application. During this period, you’re eligible to modify your application and add videos and photos prior to the voting stage.

To be Eligible for a Grant your application must be submitted through the website by the end of the application period, comply with these official application guidelines and must include at least the following:

  • A description of your project idea including budget details
  • The Category in which your project idea fits
  • Identify if you are an individual submitting an application on behalf of yourself or a student group

You can create your profile at any time during the grant program period, but it must be completed no later than two days before the end of the application entry period.

Grant Program Period. The opportunity to participate in The Reach Teach Learn Project begins 12:00:01 a.m. ET on Monday, November 14, 2011 (the first date/time you can submit an application) and ends 11:59:59 p.m. ET on Friday, March 2, 1012 (the last time you can submit a vote).

After the Voting Period. The applicant with the highest number of votes in each category will be considered an eligible grant recipient.

All eligible grant recipients will be subject to final review by a panel of judges to determine grant dispersion. Applications will be ranked based on an overall point system, 30 percent of which will be comprised of the results of a review by a panel of judges and the remaining 70 percent derived from online vote totals.

Grant Winners will be notified via email and/or mail no later than March 13, 2012.

Tax Liability for grant recipients will be the sole responsibility of the grant recipient.

Grant Agreement. The grant agreement will be as determined by the sponsor and will require that potential grant recipients certify that implementing the project in their application will be in compliance with all laws, rules and regulations. In addition to submitting a signed grant agreement, eligible grant recipients who submitted an application as an individual and/or student group will need to submit the following:

  1. A detailed line item budget for the project
  2. Details about the proposed project activities
  3. A project plan with proposed reporting milestones
  4. Letter of reference (teacher, boss, colleague, coach, etc.) identifying their relationship with you and/or the student group explaining why they feel you are qualified to carry out the idea
